Sulayhids / Fatimids?. Uncertain ruler. AV Fractional Dinar (12.2mm, 0.51 g, 7h). Zabid mint. Dated AH (3)50 or (4)50? (AD 961/2 or 1058/9). Obverse centre: al-‘izza, Obverse margin: amr bihi al-amir [unread] / Reverse centre: lillah, Reverse margin: bism Allah duriba bi-zabid sanat khamsin. Good VF. Extremely rare.
The formula al-‘izza - lillah is found on various Fatimid types, especially of al-Mu‘izz (AD 341-365) but also of al-Mustansir (AD 427-487). The ruler’s name on this piece has not been read, but the Sulayhid rulers of Zabid struck several issues acknowledging the Fatimids during the middle years of the 5th/11th century.
