'Abbasid Caliphate. Anonymous. Late 3rd/9th or early 4th/10th century. AR Donative Dirham (24mm, 1.75 g, 11h). Anonymous type, without mint or date. Obverse: la ilaha illa / Allah wahdahu / la sharik lahu in field; Qur’an 30:4 in margin / Reverse: lillah / Muhammad / rasul / Allah in field; Qur’an 9:33 in margin. Good Fine, part of edge broken away. Extremely rare.

This medallion is similar to ‘Abbasid donative issues from the late 3rd/9th and early 4th/10th century in its fabric, design, calligraphy and religious inscriptions. It is a struck piece, and so was presumably produced in an official mint. It is exceptional that such a piece should be entirely anonymous.
