POTTERY. Iranian Plateau. circa 3,000-2,000 BCE. Terracotta. (24.5 cm tall x 24 cm wide). A large utilitarian vessel with broad rounded body, flat foot, squat neck, and slightly flared lip. A pouring spout rises from the rim, joined to a corded handle that loops around the neck and meets the spout. Black paint is strongly preserved on the handle, spout and neck, with spotted traces over the body, suggesting that it was once fully painted. Minor accretions on the handle and lower surfaces. A wonderful example of corded handle ware from region. Some loss of paint/glaze. Intact. |
