Maurice Tiberius. 582-602. AV Tremissis (10mm, 0.55 g, 6h). Constantinople mint. Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Cross potent; CONOB. DOC 14; MIBE 20; SB 488. Toned, heavily clipped, light hairlines. Near EF. Clipped down to around a third of its intended weight of 1.50 g. Perhaps having circulated as a 1/2 or 1/3 tremissis.

There is a remote possibility that this heavily clipped tremissis could have been cut down from a ceremonial half tremissis (cf. MIBE N20). However, the more likely explanation is that it is simply a normal, albeit very heavily clipped, tremisiss.
