Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. Antoninianus (22.5mm, 3.67 g, 12h). Londinium (London) mint. Struck circa AD 288-290. Radiate, helmeted, and cuirassed bust left, holding spear over shoulder and shield / Pax standing left, holding olive branch and vertical scepter; F|O//ML. RIC V.5 2037 (this coin cited). Dark green-brown patina, some cleaning scratches, some hard deposits. VF. Very rare. One of only ten examples cited in RIC V.5.

From the Chris Bailey Collection, purchased in May 1999. Found at Theatre Field, St. Albans, Hertfordshire.
