Carausius. Romano-British Emperor, AD 286-293. AR Denarius (18.5mm, 3.77 g, 8h). ‘RSR’ mint. Struck circa AD 286-287/8 (some later). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Carausius, on horseback riding left, raising hand and holding short transverse scepter; beneath horse to left, bound captive seated left; RSR. RIC V.5 26 (this coin cited); Shiel p. 99, 4-5; RSC 5. Toned, pitting, filing defacing bust and name. Fine / Near VF. Very rare.

Interesting with the filing defacing Carausius’ bust and name. The filing was evidentially done on this coin not in order to covertly salvage metal from it (as is often the case) but rather to intentionally carry out a so to speak damnatio of Carausius.
