KINGS of PONTUS. Pythodoris, with Divus Augustus. Circa 29 BC-AD 38. AR Drachm (18.5mm, 3.70 g, 12h). Struck under Tiberius and Rhoemetalces I. Dated CY 60 (AD 22/3 or 23/4). Laureate head of Divus Augustus right / Capricorn right, globe between its forehooves; ETOYΣ Ξ (date) in legend. Leschorn, Antike Ären 1a; RPC I 3803; RG 19. Lightly toned, porosity, scratches. Near EF. Rare.

Leschorn notes that the new dating era for the Kingdom of Pontus begins with the reign of Polemon I, the first Pontic King. He also suggests that the obverse portrait on the coinage of Pythodoris is either Augustus or Tiberius, but the strike date indicates it was struck by Tiberius with a portrait of the deified Augustus. He notes that all of the Augustus portraits in this series may be posthumous.
