Laureate head of Claudius right; L ς (date) below chin / MEΣΣAΛINA KAIΣ ΣEBAΣ, Messalina, veiled, standing left, leaning on column and holding two small figures in outstretched right hand and grain ears with left. Köln 88; Dattari (Savio) 129; K&G 12.54; RPC I 5164; Emmett 74.6. Toned, minor marks and deposits. Near VF.

The reverse type depicts Valeria Messalina, Claudius’ third wife, in the guise of Demeter. The two small figures in her right hand are identified as Britannicus and Claudia Octavia, her two children by Claudius.
