ARABIA, Bostra(?). Trajan. AD 98-117. AR Drachm (19.5mm, 2.69 g, 6h). Dated COS. 6 (AD 113). Laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder / Arabia standing left, holding branch in left hand and bundle of cinnamon sticks in right; behind, camel standing left. Ganschow, Münzen p. 160 note; RPC III 4074; Metcalf, Caesarea 16. Toned with earthen highlights, scratches. Good Fine. Rare overstrike on a Nabataean drachm of Rabbel II.

The undertype is a drachm of Rabbel II, a Nabataean king who reined contemporarily with Trajan (AD 70-106). The coin shows clear Nabataean legends and the king’s bust on the reverse. A similar, but higher grade, specimen recently sold at VCoins for $750.
