NORMAN. Henry I. 1100-1135. AR Penny (18mm, 1.24 g, 11h). Smaller bust/cross and annulets type. Hastings mint; Wulfnoth, moneyer. Struck circa 1119. +hENRICVS R, crowned bust left; rosette to left / +PVLNOD: ON: hAS:, cross pattée with annulet center; pellet-in-annulets in quarters. SCBI -; BMC -; North 868; SCBC 1273. Good VF, toned. Exceptional strike. Very rare type, the second known from Hastings mint.



Only one other specimen of this type is known from Hastings (EMC 2005.0037). That coin, reportedly found last year in Framlingham, Suffolk, England, is from the same moneyer and shares the same reverse die as our coin.
