The Muslim Mughals were as susceptible to millenarianism as the Christians, and the arrival of Anno Hegira 1000 brought with it the same portents of a new age that Christians had anticipated some 600 years earlier. Akbar's coinage of that year is dated year "1" to indicate the beginning of that new era.
