[Ancient] INDIA, Guptas. Chandragupta II. Circa 380-414 AD. AV Dinar (7.87 g, 12h). Horseman type. Chandragupta riding caparisoned horse right with cloak billowing out behind him; he holds a bow above the horse's head and a whip by his side / The goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated left on wicker stool, holding diadem and lotus; tamgha to left, sceptre before legend to right. Cf. BMC Guptas pl. X, 8; cf. Altekar pl. VIII, 5; Bayana -. Good VF, bold strike. Unpublished variety. ($6000)

There are a number of varieties of Chandragupta's horseman type, several of which portray him holding accoutrements such as a sword or a bow. No example was previously known with him carrying both a bow and a whip.
