BOIOTIA, Thebes. Circa 425-395 BC. AR Tritetartemorion (0.62 g). Three half Boiotian shields radiating outward from central Q / As obverse, but each shield decorated with a club; all within incuse concave circle. Bérend, Réflexions 32 (this coin); BMC p. 79, 105, pl. XIV, 10; SNG Cop. 309. Good VF, toned, minor granularity. Rare. ($500)

One of the very few existing ancient coins that have the same subject on both obverse and reverse. What is also noteworthy is that, for some reason, the mint chose to place the club symbols on the reverse shields rather than on the obverse as was the practice up to now.
