Anonymous. 157-156 BC. AR Denarius (17mm, 3.48 g, 10h). Helmeted head of Roma right; X behind / Victory, holding goad or whip, driving biga right. Crawford 197/1; Sydenham 431; RSC 6. VF, irridescant tone.
From the Harry Strickhausen Collection.
The plates in Crawford (XXXI, 11 & 12) do not distinguish goad from whip. On this coin, as on both Crawford images, the object appears to be a goad, i.e. a short stick or wand.
