KINGS of BAKTRIA. Diodotos I, in the name of Antiochos II of Syria. Circa 255-235 BC. AV Stater (8.29 g, 6h). Mint A (near Aï Khanoum). Diademed head right / Zeus Bremetes left; to inner left, N above eagle standing left. Cf. Holt Series A, Group 7 (tetradrachm); Bopearachchi -; SNG ANS -; SC 629. Near EF, trace of lustre, small flan flaw on neck. ($3000)

This coin shows clear evidence that the reverse die used was apparently re-engraved with the N symbol over the wreath symbol. Holt and Kritt both place the N symbol chronologically before the wreath, a view supported by the continuation of the wreath in later issues, but this new evidence suggests that use of the two symbols overlapped chronologically.
