ASIA MINOR, Uncertain. 3rd century BC. AR Obol (0.65 g, 8h). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin / Monogram between arrowhead and bow. MG p. 467, 47. Good VF, toned. Very rare. ($300)

In the third century BC, a number of cities in northern Asia Minor (e.g. Erythrai) and along the Black Sea coast of Thrace (e.g. Kallatis), issued civic coinage based on the coinage of Alexander III of Macedon. While it is uncertain whether this is a civic or dynastic issue, find spots of previous examples supports an attribution to northern Asia Minor contemporary to the Alexander-derived coinages.
