CILICIA, Tarsus. Commodus and Annius Verus, Caesars. 166-177 AD. Æ 16mm (3.52 gm). Bare-headed and draped bust of Commodus right, vis-à-vis bare-headed and draped bust of Verus left; star above, crossed club and caduceus between / Decastyle temple set on three-tiered base; KOINOC KILIK[WN] in entablature; three birds in pediment. Cf. SNG Levante 1018; SNG France 1456. VF, green patina, obverse pitted.

These small bronzes have long been controversial. The male heads have been identified as the brothers Annius Verus and Commodus (Caesars under their father Marcus Aurelius from 166 to 169/70, when Annius Verus died) or as Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus.
