[Antiquities] GREEK. Pair of Skythian(?) Silver Plaques. Circa 2nd-1st century BC. Two silver plaques, 50mm x 50mm, featuring schematic representations of a pair of eyes with tiny pupils and elaborate curled lashes. Chased and incised details. Soldered loops on back, probably for use as horse trappings. Original hoard patina, with patches of horn silver and moderate porosity. These eyes probably served an apotropaic function, a universal symbol for warding off the "Evil Eye". Two (2) pieces in lot. ($300)
