ANGLO-SAXON. Secondary Sceattas. Northumbria, York. Circa 720s. AR Sceatta (1.07 gm, 12h). Series J, Type 85. Diademed head right / Bird perched right on cross; quatrefoil, trefoils, and annulets in field. Metcalf 293; North 128; SCBC 791. Good VF, toned, hairline flan crack, light scrape on obverse. Rare. ($500)

Metcalf's analysis of this coinage places it in Northumbria during the reign of Osric (718-729 AD), son of Aldfrith.
