INDIA, Princely States. Cooch Behar. Jitendra Narayan. 1913-1922. AV Nazarana Half Rupee (7.40 gm, 12h). Coronation issue. Dated Local era CB 404 (1914 AD). Coat-of-arms with lion and elephant supporters / Brahmi legend and date. KM 215. Good VF, ex jewelry. Very rare. ($1000)

After the local coinage of silver half rupees was demonetized in 1866, the only coinage struck for each prince of Cooch Behar was a coronation issue. Although KM calls this a 'Mohur", it is in fact an off-metal strike of the standard half rupee, both metals being struck for each issue. The direct line of Cooch Behar maharajas ended in 1992 with the death of the youngest son of Jitendra, Virajendra Narayan, who left no children.
