DOMITIAN. 81-96 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (11.06 gm, 7h). Ephesus (or Rome) mint. Struck 82 AD. Laureate head right / Legionary aquila between two standards. RIC II 226; RPC I 865; BMCRE 252; RSC 667. VF, struck with worn obverse die. ($300)

While RPC II notes that no decisive evidence exists for the mint of Domitian's cistophori, the style, legends, and, in particular, the consistent die axis point to Rome, suggesting that these coins were minted in the capital and then sent to Asia for local use.
