DOMITIAN. 81-96 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (10.63 gm). Rome or Ephesus mint. Struck 95 AD. Laureate head right / Legionary aquila between two military standards. RIC II 223 (Ephesus); RPC II 873/9; BMCRE 253 (Ephesus?); RSC 94. VF, toned. ($300)

While RPC II notes that no decisive evidence exists for the mint of Domitian's cistophori, the style, legends, and, in particular, the consistent die axis is similar to that of Rome, suggesting that these coins were minted in the capital and then sent to Asia for local use.
