CILICIA, Tarsos. Datames, Satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia. 384-362 BC. AR Stater (10.35 gm). Struck during the Satraps' Revolt, circa 369-362 BC. Baaltars seated right, torso facing, holding grain ear, grape-bunch, and eagle-tipped sceptre; 'BLTRZ' in Aramaic and dolphin to left, thymiaterion to right; all within crenellated wall / Ana, nude, facing Datames; both have their right arms raised; between them, thymiaterion and 'TRDMW' in Aramaic; all within square dotted border within linear border. SNG Levante 83 var. (no dolphin); SNG France 290 var. (shield not dolphin); SNG von Aulock 5943 var. (no dolphin); SNG von Post 440 var. ('ANA' on reverse). VF, some areas of striking weakness and a few minor areas of redeposited silver. Extremely rare issue with the dolphin. ($750)
