IMP CAES G PESCEN-I NIGER IVSTI AV, laureate head right / MARTI VCTORI (sic), Mars standing left, holding shield set on ground, and spear. RIC IV 54 var. (legends); BMCRE pg. 79* note var. (same); RSC 50 var. (same). Good VF, porous. Apparently unrecorded with these spellings. ($1000)

In his review of the denarii of Pescennius Niger ("The Denarii of Pescennius Niger," in The Presidents Address, NumChron 1992, pg. iv-xxii), Buttrey recorded a specimen with the reverse legend MARTI VLTORI with a similar reverse type as this specimen, except the shield and spear are reversed.
