COMMODUS. 177-192 AD. Æ Sestertius (24.01 gm). Struck circa 192 AD. Laureate bust right, drapery on left shoulder / Africa, wearing elephant's skin headdress, standing right, lion at feet, holding sistrum and giving grain ears to Hercules, standing left, foot on prow, holing club on rock outcropping. RIC III 641 var. (no drapery); MIR 18 18, 861-6 var. (same); Banti 356; BMCRE 718 var. (same); Cohen 644 var. (same). VF, nice pale green patina. Extremely rare variety. ($750)
