SASANIAN KINGS of PERSIA. Yazdgard II. 438-457 AD. AR Obol (0.50 gm). Uncertain mint. Crowned and cuirassed bust right; ribbon over left shoulder / Fire altar with attendants, holding staves, and ribbon; no mint signature. Cf. Göbl I/1; cf. Paruck 340; cf. Alram 870. Toned VF. Rare. ($150)

From the Bellaria Collection. Ex Peus 325 (15 June 1989), lot 1037 (part of).

All references cite the specimen in Paruck, which seems to have an erroneous weight of 22.07 grains, resulting in the denomination being called a diobol. This error appears to have been corrected by H.M. Malek in his review of Sasanian numismatic research ("A Survey of Research on Sasanian Numismatics," in NumChron 1993), which lists the obol, and not a diobol, as a known denomination of Yazdgard II.
