SYRIA, Seleukis & Pieria. Laodikeia. Circa 81/0-17/6 BC. AR Tetradrachm (14.71 gm). Autonomous period; dated year 15 (67/6 BC). Turreted, veiled, and draped bust of Tyche right; K on left turret / Zeus seated left, holding Nike and sceptre; EI (date) before, monogram below throne, DI in exergue; all within wreath. Cf. Mørkholm, Laodicea 8a and pl. 15, 19-20 (same obverse die; dated years 17-18); SNG Copenhagen -. Good VF. Very rare, and apparently an unrecorded variety for year 15. ($500)

Although Mørkholm does not comment on the obverse mark, he does note that obverse dies were used for an unusually long period. The die used to strike the present specimen was in use for at least four years.
