SASANIAN KINGS of PERSIA. Shahpur II. 309-379 AD. AV Dinar (7.33 gm). Uncertain eastern mint. Degraded Pahlavi legend, crowned and cuirassed bust right; mint signature(?) before / Degraded Pahlavi legend, fire altar without attendants; two pellets to either side of central column. Göbl, Kushan 1352/2; Göbl Ia/7; Paruck 253; Alram 823; cf. MACW 870; De Morgan -. VF, some smoothing, light scratches. ($1500)

I>From the Bellaria Collection.

The mint signature (if that is what it is) on these issues has had various interpretations by numismatists, with the majority opinion behind either RHYC (Göbl) or SRI (Senior). If the signature is SRI, then it is certainly an issue from the mint of Sind.
