THRACE, Ainos. Circa 368-357 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.35 gm). Three-quarter facing head of Hermes, turned slightly left, wearing petasos with studded rim / AINION, goat standing right; thunderbolt before. Cf. May, Ainos 417-435; cf. AMNG III 317-342; BMC Thrace -; SNG Copenhagen - Heavily toned EF, well centered and well struck. Unpublished with the thunderbolt symbol. [See color enlargement on plate 5] ($15,000)

Late issue tetradrachms, struck with a round rather than square reverse die, are rare. This change in dies began with May's Period III, Group LIX coinage.
