SICILY, Tauromenion. Circa 295-289 BC. AV Tetradrachm - 15 Litrai (1.06 gm). Laureate head of Apollo right; uncertain symbol or monogram behind / [TA]YPOME-NITA[N], tripod-lebes. SNG ANS 1119 (same obverse die); SNG Copenhagen 927 var. (obverse symbol); Jameson 902 var. (same); cf. Pozzi 1384; cf. Weber 1740. Good VF. ($2000)

From the James A. Ferrendelli Collection.

This issue was likely associated with the Apollo / Tripod series of Agathokles of Syracuse. However, its dating is subseqent to that issue (circa 305-300 BC), as the weight standard is the same as Agathokles' later gold coinage.
