SYRIA, Decapolis. Petra. Hadrian. 117-138 AD. Æ 28mm (10.38 gm). Dated year 30 (135/6 AD). Laureate and draped bust right / Tyche seated left, holding trophy; L in left field. Spijkerman 6/2; cf. Rosenberger 6. Good VF, desert patina. ($300)

Opinion remains divided as to whether the L and another numeral, KQ, indicate dates in a civic era starting with the annexation of Arabia in 106 AD. If this is the case, these are the only dated coins from Petra under the Romans. The numerals are normally found on both obverse and reverse, except for Spijkerman 6/2.
