Handsome James I Crown
STUART. James I. 1603-1625. AR Crown (44mm, 29.89 g, 10h). Second coinage. London (Tower) mint; im: lis. Struck 1604-1605. James on caparisoned horse right, holding reins and sword over shoulder / Coat-of-arms. North 2097; SCBC 2652. Light metal stressing and a few minor dings, toned. Good VF. Well struck, a lovely example.

The depiction of the king on horseback first appeared on the silver coins of Edward VI and was later continued under James I. On James I’s coinage, the mounted image in armour and regalia reinforced royal authority over both England and Scotland.
