Very Rare Worcester Mint
ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor. 1042-1066. AR Penny (19mm, 1.29 g, 12h). Pointed Helmet type (BMC vii, Hild. F). Worcester mint; Garwulf, moneyer. Struck circa 1053-1056. Bust right, wearing pointed helmet and holding scepter fleury / + GARVLF ON PIHEREC , voided short cross with pellet-in-annulet at center and triple crescents at each end. Freeman 76 (
this coin cited); North 825; SCBC 1179. Darkly toned with golden iridescent highlights, some edge crimping, visible reverse overstrike, slightly double struck on legends. Good VF. Choice portrait. Very rare mint for this type.
