Davesne, A. & Le Rider, G. Le tresor de Meydancikkale. Gülnar II. (Paris, 1989). Complete in two parts, 4to. 377 pages; 157 plates. Original card covers. Very Fine condition, minor shelf wear else little used. An important work, documenting 5,215 coins (65 kg of silver) found during an official excavation in Turkey in 1980. Originally known as the Gülnar hoard, it consisted mostly of Alexander the Great, Lysimachos, early Seleucid, Attalid and Ptolemaic tetradrchms. Described by Ulla Westermark as a “masterpiece of meticulous scholarship which will undoubtedly become a standard reference work for the coinages of the Hellenistic period”, the work is unsurprisingly, highly sought after and seldom offered.
