ANGLO-SAXON. Edward the Confessor. 1042-1066. AR Penny (1.28 gm). Helmet/hammer-cross mule, 1059-1062. Winchester mint; Liofwold, moneyer. + EDPER D REX, helmeted bust right, holding sceptre / + LIOFPOLD ONPINEE: (NP ligate), voided short cross with each limb terminating in an incurved segment of a circle. Cf. North 825/828; cf. SCBC 1179/1182. Toned, good VF. Extremely rare, only four specimens of this mule known. ($1500)
