ATTICA, Athens. Circa 500/490-485/0 BC. AR Obol (8mm, 0.59 g, 6h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right, head facing; olive-spray to left; all within incuse square. Seltman Group Gii, p. 188, pl. XXII, κ; HGC 4, 1658. Fine, toned, some porosity.

Sellwood is best known as the foremost numismatic scholar of Parthian coinage, publishing two editions of the standard work on the subject, An Introduction to the Coinage of Parthia. He purchased most of his coins from Baldwin’s, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s, but continued to collect until his death in April, 2012.
