BITHYNIA, Caesarea-Germanica. Pescennius Niger. 193-194 AD. Æ 24mm (5.98 gm). Laureate head right / Hygieia standing right. Waddington, RG -; SNG Copenhagen -; SNG von Aulock -; BMC Bithynia -; Lindgren -. An apparently unpublished reverse type for this series which honors the various gods of the Greek pantheon. Fine, glossy green patina with small patches of roughness. Extremely rare. ($1250)

This coin bears a figure of the goddess of health and well-being (Latin: Salus). Bland, Burnett, and Bendall list several other types of Caesarea-Germanica, but not this type ("The mints of Pescennius Niger in the light of some new aurei," NumChron (1987), p. 81).
