PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Arsinöe II, wife of Ptolemy II. Died 270 BC. AV Oktadrachm (27.83 gm). Struck under Ptolemy VI or VIII, circa 180-116 BC. Diademed and veiled head right, lotus-tipped sceptre over shoulder; K behind / Double cornuacopiae bound with fillet. Svoronos 1498; SNG Copenhagen 322. Superb EF. ($7500)

The commemorative coinage of Arsinoe II experienced a resurgence at the Cypriote mints under Ptolemy V. This revival was continued by his successors, who supplemented the Cypriote issues with a large gold coinage, consisting of oktadrachms, tetradrachms and didrachms, from Alexandria.
