Sold for $450. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

IONIA, Magnesia ad Maeandrum. Circa 282-225 BC. AR Tetradrachm (30.5mm, 16.79 g, 1h). In the name and types of Alexander III of Macedon. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; monogram-in-circle in left field, maeander pattern in exergue. Price 2023A var. (monogram not in circle). VF, toned. Extremely rare, none in Pella, nor CoinArchives.

From the Colin E. Pitchfork Collection, purchased from Freeman & Sear, 17 January 2004.

For his entry 2023A, Price references an example in the Hersh Collection, but this coin apparently was not among the coins donated to the BM by Hersh. As no other examples are published, it is possible that Price’s record of the control erroneously omits the circle.
