Moneyer issues of Imperatorial Rome. C. Vibius Varus. 42 BC. AR Denarius (18.8mm, 3.99 g, 11h). Rome mint. Laureate and bearded head of Hercules right / Minerva standing right, holding spear and Victory; shield set on ground to right. Crawford 494/37; CRI 193; Sydenham 1139; Vibia 23; Type as RBW 1740. VF, toned, struck off center.

From the Andrew McCabe Collection, purchased from Britaly Coins .

The head of Hercules on the obverse of this issue is perhaps the best in the Roman Republican series. This is an especially popular type for this reason, although no more scarce than the next that has Hercules on the reverse. [A. McCabe]
