FRANCE, Troisième République. 1870-1940. Æ Medal (50x60mm, 81.0 g, 12h). L’infini. By Pierre Lenoir. Female figure seated right, holding hands and resting arm on male standing right; in exergue, L’INFINIE / Nature scene; above, Quelque chose de pur desacré de béni/ S’elevait jusqu’a nous du calme l’abine/ Un vertige aimantait nos coeurs vers l’infini/ Nous sentions l’attirance auguste du sublime. EF, minor spotting.


Collector’s note: “Pierre Lenoir (1879-1953) was pupil to his father Charles Lenoir who was a sculptor. Later he studied under Chaplain, Peter, Roty and Mercier. From 1899 Lenoir exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais. He was awarded second-class medals in 1905 and 1907 and received a travel grant in 1911. He became Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Lenoir executed numerous war memorials and statues, for example in the Petit Palais in Paris.
