Collector’s note: “Born in Sainte-Etienne/France, Georges Dupre (1869-1909) was a descendant of the famous medallist Augustin Dupre. This is perhaps the most beautiful and gracefully rendered medal in the career of Dupré (1869-1909).

Dupré first studied engraving and weapon chasing at the Ecole des Art Industriels in Saint-Etienne. In 1892 he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he was pupil to Roty, winning several awards. Dupré won the Great Prize of Rome in 1896 and became associate of the Societe des Artistes Francais in 1903.
