INDO-PARTHIANS, Margiana or Sogdiana. Uncertain. Late 1st century BC-early 1st century AD. AR Drachm (20mm, 2.98 g, 12h). Imitating a countermarked Margiane drachm of Parthian king Phraates IV (cf. Sellwood 52.19). Diademed bust left; "countermark:" helmeted bust right / Archer seated right on throne, holding bow; blundered legend around. Senior 199.2D; HGC 12, 520. VF, porous.

From the Parthicus Collection.

The Senior Type 199.2D drachms are remarkable as they completely imitate the Type 199.1D issues, including the countermark, which was engraved in the obverse die.
