D N IVLIVS MAIORI ANVS P F AVC, pearl-diademed, helmeted, draped, and cuirassed bust right, holding spear forward in right hand and shield decorated with staurogram in left / Latin cross pattée within wreath; large central jewel above; COMOB. Cf. Reinhart, Münzen 65-7; cf. RIC X 3747-9; Lacam pl. 13, 52 (Arles mint); MEC 1, –; Hunter, Byzantine –; Triton XI, lot 1064. Good VF, two light scratches across cheek, minor scratches to left of wreath at 8 o’clock. Very rare.
