Research Coins: Electronic Auction

383, Lot: 439. Estimate $150.
Sold for $575. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

UNCERTAIN. Uncertain. Struck circa 43-33 BC?. Æ (16mm, 4.87 g, 7h). Bare head right within linear border / CK[?]/ΠΙω in two lines within dotted border. RPC Suppl. I 5477 (this coin, and illustrated on pl. 11). Near VF, dark green to black patina, minor roughness. Unique(?).

From the RBW Collection, purchased from Bill Veres, January 1996.

The authors of RPC Supplement I note that “The head looks Augustan, or perhaps Triumviral.” To this cataloguer, it looks like Antony. The reverse legend appears to spell “Scipio”.
