Uncertain. 189-180 BC. Æ As (33mm, 31.19 g, 2h). Rome mint. Laureate head of bearded Janus; I (mark of value) above / Prow of galley right; above, bull standing right and MD monogram; I (mark of value) to right. Crawford 142/1; Sydenham 299; RBW 629. Near VF, dark green to black surfaces.

Ex Numismatica Ars Classica 78, Part II (27 May 2014), lot 1660 (not illustrated).

The MD monogram has led some to suggest that these are the moneyer’s initials, perhaps indicating M. Durmius.
