ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Mercia. Eadberht. Bishop of London, circa 776-787/9. AR Penny (17mm, 1.08 g, 6h). Light coinage, non-portrait, with Offa as overlord. London mint. Struck circa 776-782. .ЄAD. :BERH: ·T (EP)· in three lines, divided by beaded bars / O F (Rx) (Mercian m) in angles of cross-crosslet with central annulet containing rosette. Naismith, Offa 30 (this coin); Chick 80; SCBI –; BMC 41; North 278; SCBC 912 (this coin illustrated). Good VF, minor scuff on reverse, otherwise toned and of pleasing neat style. Extremely rare.
