ITALY, Venezia (Venice). Silvestro Valiero. 1694-1700. AV Ocella da 4 Zecchini (36.5mm, 12.73 g, 3h). Dated year 6 (1699). St. Mark seated right, presenting banner to kneeling Doge / Dove of Peace. CNI VIII 131 var. (star dividing AN VI). VF, holed and plugged. Rare.

This issue was struck to commemorate the Peace of Carlowitz, a 1699 treaty between the Ottomans and the Holy League (Austria, Poland, and Venice). It marked an end to the conflicts of the Austro-Ottoman War (1683-1697).
