GAUL, Northeast. Ambiani. 2nd century BC. AV Stater (24mm, 7.38 g, 10h). Gallo-Belgic A. Celticized head of Apollo right / Disjointed driver guiding chariot left; rosette below, patterns in fields. D&T 54 var.; Depeyrot, NC VI, 128 var.; Scheers class II, fig. 54. var.; Van Arsdell 10-1; ABC 1 var.; SCBC 1 var. (all with chariot right). Fine, scrapes and marks, edge ding. Rare variety.

From the collection of Dr. Lawrence A. Adams, purchased from M. Louis Teller, August 1982.

Gallo-Belgic A staters are known in two basic types: bust left/chariot left and bust right/chariot right. The present coin appears to be a mule combining a right facing bust obverse with a left facing chariot reverse.
