THRACE, Abdera. Circa 336-311 BC. AR Drachm (14mm, 2.37 g, 10h). Pytho[...], magistrate. Griffin springing left / Laureate head of Apollo in linear square; EΠI ΠYΘ-Ω[?] around. C-N 189 corr. (D1/R1; magistrate); otherwise unpublished. Fine, toned, slight granularity, some roughness on obverse. Very rare.

The lower part of the reverse legend is completely off the flan on the C-N 189 piece, but there is enough visible on the present coin to conclude that the reading in C-N is incorrect, and this is not an issue of the magistrate Pythes. Nonetheless, the type and legend configuration clearly places it among the issues of Period IX.
